Real Alabama Weddings: A Garden Wedding in Birmingham

On September 9, 2006 Chaney Taylor Dinkel and Christopher Michael Ardovino were married in the garden at The Historic Rucker Place under an arbor of suspended candles. Presented by her Step Father, Gregg Jackson and Grandfather, Ed Drinkard, Chaney walked down the candlelit aisle to the music of The Saleri String Quartet.

The bride was a vision of beauty in her strapless lace gown accented at the waist with a black satin ribbon by David's Bridal. She carried a stunning bouquet of pink calla lilies and roses designed by Ken Kiester of Norton's Florist. Beautiful pink parasols were on hand to keep that hot Alabama sun off of the bridal party and guests.

The Historic Rucker Place also set the stage for the indoor reception where the guests dined on heavy hors'deourves and a scrumptious chocolate fountain from Olexa's Catering. The rooms and tables were elegantly decorated with candlelight and calla lily arrangements accented with green apples by Norton's Florist.

The 4 tier wedding cake was both delicious and beautiful. It was adorned with fresh flowers and displayed on a round silver cake stand. Both the wedding cake and the groom's cake were made by Diane Olexa of Olexa's Catering.

The happy couple took their first spin around the dance floor as husband and wife to the song "It Had To Be You", which couldn't be more accurate for these two, who have known each other for over half of their lives. After the first dance, the guests had a blast as they danced the night away to the music of a live Motown band.

As the evening ended, Chaney changed into a black dress as she prepared to leave with her new husband. Guests showered the couple with rose petals before riding off in true southern style in a horse drawn carriage.

Alene Gamel with I Do, I Do Wedding Planning and Consulting worked diligently behind the scenes, planning everything to the very last detail to make Chaney's wedding dreams come true.

Each moment of the ceremony and reception was beautifully captured by Jim Little of Jim Little Photography and all of the photos in this article are courtesy of Jim Little Photography.

Chaney and Christopher honeymooned in Hawaii and currently reside in Birmingham.
